Some of its hard, and others, not so much. REMEMBER there is going to be a big math test on Tuesday, and its everything we learned about fractions. In science we have been doing more with FOSS airplanes and it's almost time to take that test about variables and everything we learned about the FOSS planes!! And it's been so much fun learning about them!! That test is going to be on Friday. After we're finished, we are going to be moving to weather and water. Most kids think it's going to be a awesome unit!!! Have a great weekend!! Hope everyone does more then stay home all weekend!!

We started off our day back with a long, fun day going deeper into Egypt. Monday was Egypt Day! We got to show off our coffins and all the treasures found inside. We also got to test our knowledge playing trivia games. While playing those games we earned gold tokens to spend in the Treasury Goods Store. We then each participated in building a Human Pyramind. That was fun! After we went and spent those gold tokens! There were some cool prizes! We ended our day of Egypt with eating the grapes, dates, and bread you donated. While eating we learned about pyramids. We also continued with our third day of treasures. This week we worked on adding and subtracting decimals. Mrs. Hogue also prepared us for our next section of fractions by giving us a "Are You Ready Test". In Science we have been learning about our FOSS airplanes. It's a very active lesson! We also wrapped up our treasures Thursday with our spelling test and assesment. The assesment was tough this week!! Although our proud wall is filling up! In KIA we have been repeating old games. It's really fun! Students should be coming home with their Egyptian boxes. They're neat to look at. Also report cards are here! We get them tomorrow. Our class is trying our best and that's what counts. Have a great weekend!! Let's see who wins this SuperBowl!

Mrs. Hogue's nightly homework is a blast and it helps you learn! Egypt Day is on Monday, January 28th...please bring grapes, bread, and dates. You can also dress up for extra credit. If you dress up Mrs. Hogue will probably take a picture of you for the website. This week we painted our Egypt boxes, wrapped our mummies, and colored our wall paintings and treasury goods for our boxes. In math we just finished mixed numbers and improper fractions. Next week we will add and subtract fractions with like denominators. Today is Ms. Doubrava's birthday! It is also the end of the marking period which means we will be getting our report cards next Friday. If you can, please bring in tissue boxes because we are almost out. Reminder-please make sure you wear warm clothes to school because it has been below 0 the past few days! Lastly, Mrs. Hogue shared some exciting news...she will be having a baby in July!

TEN DAYS TILL CHRISTMAS ALERT!!!!! Mrs Hogue's class is ready for the holidays and the mummifed apples are drying now. ELA main selection this week was all about saving the day! I think this selection is going to be a good one. I would also like to congratulate Jillian O Malley and Christopher Enright on making Students of the marking period!!!
Math class update, Festive Math!!! We are using prime factorization to make mathematical Christmas trees!
Of course its almost Christmas and everyone's excited. School's Winter break is almost here creating excitment and distractions for many kids in school. Right now is the time to work and for kids to get good grades. If you dont...it won't be a very fun Christmas. Right now some of us are hoping for a snow day...here's a down low...use the good luck charms. They just might work.

It has been a really interesting week! In Social Studies, we are preparing to "mummify" an apple. We have gathered materials to simulate the mummification process with said apple. I know everyone is looking foward to it. In ELA, we are learning about possessive nouns. For our "Must Do's" we have to do vocab squares, spelling 5X each, a point of view essay, and last, read towards our 300 minutes goal of the month and 25 book goal. In Math, we are learning about Prime and Composite numbers. We recently got our weekly review and spelling tests and everyone did a very good job. In science class, we are still doing our lifeboat unit. This Monday, two people from the "Ropes Course" are coming in to talk about with us. Everyone is getting a good start on the 25 book goal, only 4 students need to mark down books, remember, READ READ READ!!! We have given our spelling and vocab words of the week, there not that hard, pretty simple. Hopefully, if we all study hard enough, we might one day get all 100's!!! Our record was recently set as 80% altogether. Keep up the good work guys!!!!!!!

This past week we have done a lot! On Monday in math we did centers we learned how to divide decimals by whole numbers, it wasn't hard for most of us. Then we learned how to divide decimals by decimals, through past week wich is still going on. Then we started new must do's in ELA. We made vocab charts, sail boat spelling ,a goal setting piece and the three journal entries. We finished the comma lesson and started making plural nouns. In social studies we brought in materials for the new Egypt unit, which seems really exciting. Also we completed an artifact project in which we identify our chosen artifact from ancient Egypt.

This week (or these two days) we are all quite busy! Because of our short week
we don't have as much time to work. On Monday we had our Chapter 2 test in
Social Studies and thanks to our study guide that we had to study from ( instead
of having to lug home our heavy text books) I think that the test went pretty
well! In KIA (Kids in Action) we played a game called " Night at the Improv" and
this game helps us to use our creativity and listening skills to create a story.
This KIA activity helps to train us for the Ropes Course that we will be going
to this Spring. When we go to the Ropes Course we will need to use all of our
Habit of the Mind skills to be able to have fun and trust eachother. Also this
week we are starting our Life Boats investigation in science class. This
investigation helps us to learn about buoyancy and density. In our instigation we
will be using our " Life Boats" ( plastic cups) and we will be testing them to
see how many pennies they can hold. Lastly this week on our morning anouncments
they have been anouncing the students of the marking period from each classroom.
This marking period Mrs. Hogue has chosen two students ( a boy and a girl) that
show all of our Habits of the Mind. The first student that is the Student of the
Marking period is Christopher Enright! Christopher is kind, compashionate,
smart, and never gives up! Because Christopher shows all of these skills he
definatly deserves to be the Student of the Marking Period, congradulations! The
second Student of the Marking Period is Jillian O'Malley (me) and I believe that
I am the student of the Marking Period because of the same reasons Christopher
is the Student of the Marking Period. I hope that this Thanksgiving we all have
a scrumptious meal and that we are all thankful for what we have. Happy
Thanksgiving!

Earlier in our week, November 13, we typed up our business letters to get them ready for sending!
Us students had to address the envelopes ourselves, and the next day they were in the mail.
Hopefully we get a letter back! That same day, in math, Mrs.Hogue let us run
through something called "Math Centers". Around the room, different activities
are set up to help us understand the math concept we have been learning. On
November 13, we worked on rounding decimals. Then, after lunch, KIA, and art,
Mrs.Hogue gave us lots of time to write out a rough draft of an essay about why
ancient emperor, Hammurabi's, code was so strict. Most of us got a lot done! On
November 14, Day 6, we had an ELA testing day! Our spelling words were difficult
for most of us, but we got really good grades! Then, we had a weekly ELA test.
During math, we explored math centers, and learned about adding and subtracting
decimals. We also started something fun in KIA with Mrs.Wilson to help us learn
to use team work and trust to prepare for "The Ropes Course" at BOCES in June.
Later, with Ms.Schrock, we started a new unit in science: Life Boats. This unit
will be exploring bouyancy. For November 15, we started a new week, with a new
reading selection and vocabulary words. Also with new spelling words. In math,
we had a review day through Math Centers! We explored a "Yurt CIrcle" for KIA.
We had music that day, and after, we reviewed for our Chapter 2 test. Our week has been full of learning!
Reminder to parents: Tomorrow, November 16th,
2012 is a half day! Dismissal for students will be at 11:00 AM
